Skem Menaces Make Christmas Magic

Hoping to spread a little cheer this holiday season, Carl Eaton and the Skem Menaces football club have set up a toy appeal, hoping to make a difference to a child’s life this Christmas and supporting the parents in need. They’re accepting donations of toys, arts and crafts items and any new gifts that children from zero to sixteen can enjoy! About the Town has personally donated £50 worth of gifts to the Menaces’ heroic efforts after completing our Taletober initiative! Beacon Country Park Maintains Excellence

West Lancashire Council is proud to announce that Beacon Country Park has maintained its Green Flag Status! Having won the accolade initially in 2007 and keeping it up ever since, the Green Flag Status represents and recognises the natural beauty of the park, as well as its welcoming, safe, and well-maintained environment and its contributions to the community. The award is assessed annually, so having it maintained for this long is certainly impressive!

Exciting news for Caya Coco

With its 10 year anniversary around the corner and an amazing five-star rating from ‘The Good Salon Guide’, Caya Coco is proud to announce some brand new features! A new barbers has been introduced to the Ashurst site, plus the sun beds have all been re-tubed, and they’re even opening up opportunities for apprenticeships! Seems there’s no stopping their amazing upward trajectory. Let it SHINE

Local advocate for ending period poverty, Macy O’Shaughnessy, has recently head up a community action group in Skelmersdale named SHINE.  The aim of SHINE is to help tackle period poverty and promote an environment where individuals can feel safe to ask anywhere for sanitary products when needed. The organisation believes that sanitary products should be an essential of any first aid kit, just as plasters would be, and they should be able to be accessed for free at the doctors. SHINE is currently looking for local businesses and establishments that would be willing and interested in supplying free sanitary products to the public.  To get involved, please contact Macy directly.

Run Lorna RUN!!

Local businesswoman, Lorna Lewis, sprinted to victory in the recent London Marathon! Lorna was raising money for Kidscan Cancer Research, an organisation that helps the fight against cancer in the young. Her amazing efforts raised almost £3000 in sponsor money. Amazing work Lorna!
