A Q&A with Psy-tap Practitioner, Hypnotherapist and Advanced TFT Practitioner, Lynn Roberts.

Can you explain a little bit about your techniques, and how they help people?

Psy-tap stands for Psycho-sensory Techniques and Principles. It was developed by Psychologist, Kevin Laye, and is a blending of proven techniques from the therapy world, many of them strong neuroscience and neurobiology based processes. They are simple to apply, easy to remember, and can quickly stop, or give you control over, an emotion or state.

TFT is short for Thought Field Therapy, an energy based form of psychotherapy, developed by Psychologist Roger Callaghan. Tapping on the same energy points used in acupuncture, the meridians, can produce rapid and lasting results in the treatment of conditions such as addictions, anxiety, trauma and depression.

Hypnosis is a very natural and deeply relaxing state that’s not usually observed in awake adults, but is perfectly normal in children. Delta/theta brain wave patterns facilitate access to information in the subconscious, opening up clients to suggestion which can bring about rapid and lasting change. Hypnosis can help the client to gain insight into their issues, and able them to re-write the programmes in the subconscious, facilitating emotional and behavioural change.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a natural state that we all enter into and out of every day, and entering hypnosis is a skill that can be developed by anyone. Under conditions, that are appropriate for the individual, anyone can be guided into hypnosis.

People have seen hypnotists on stage and worry that they won’t know what’s happening and won’t be in control.

People often ask “will you make me cluck like a chicken”? I always make it clear that no-one can make you do anything that you don’t want to do, and if you’re clucking like a chicken, it’s because you want to, and have most likely downed several pints of beer.

While in hypnosis you are aware of everything that’s happening around you. It’s a very comfortable and relaxing experience, most people really enjoy it, and it’s a very effective tool for many issues. In a therapeutic setting hypnosis is about working together so the client can be empowered to make positive changes.
