Almond Oil as a Staple Beauty Product?
Consuming Almond Oil as part of a balanced diet has been said to promote heart health, stabilise blood sugar levels, prevent free radical damage and can actually help you maintain a healthy weight – but there are actually so many extra uses for Almond Oil that you may not know about… Last Christmas, I was gifted some amazing (but rather expensive) skin care products from popular brand, Lancome. If you have ever bought a Lancome products, you will know they do come with a pretty hefty price tag. I was thrilled with my gifts, but come March they’d all run out. Usually, I’d save up and wait for a good offer to replace them, but faced with lockdown, and knowing my self-employed position as a travel agent would bring in minimal income during that time, I couldn’t justify spending out on expensive skincreams and hair oils. I’d heard about Almond Oil from my mum who is always looking for natural products to use over anything with chemicals in, so I decided to do some research and thought I’d give it a go. I’ve used it every single evening on my face after I‘ve cleansed for the last 6 months. I’ve also used it to remove eye make-up, I’ve used it as a hair oil, and as a full body moisturiser! I’ve seen such a difference in my skin, it feels youthful, and so soft! At first, I was worried that putting oil on my face might cause spots, but I’ve not a breakout in months! For such a small cost, I realised that Almond oil is super versatile and offers so many benefits, whether eaten, or used as a beauty product! It’s such a handy product to have in both your store cupboard, and your make up case!
Almond oil is basically a fat, which sounds gross when you think about it, especially when you’re putting it on your face and body, but actually it feels very luxurious! It has a lightweight texture, and a small bottle will go a long way! Used as a moisturiser, Almond Oil helps to prevent or improve the appearance of stretch marks, it also can help protect your skin from sun damage. Almond oil can be used as an effective barrier from potentially harmful UVA and UVB rays, and actually has a natural sun protection factor of 6 – although the recommended protection against skin damage is factor 15. Used as a hair oil, Almond Oil can make hair stronger and less prone to split ends. This is because it contains high amounts of vitamin E, which is a natural antioxidant. Lighten those dark circles under your eyes and reduce under-eye puffiness with Almond Oil. This magic oil has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, contains Retinol, Vitamin E, and Vitamin K, all of which can keep the delicate skin under your eyes smooth without irritation.
Almond oil helps promote healthy and glowing skin. I personally don’t recommend using it in the morning if you’re planning on wearing makeup, unless you really make sure it has soaked in. In my experience, your makeup doesn’t sit right on top of it, but that could just be me! I use 2-3 drops every evening, which covers my face, neck, chest, and I rub the residual into my hands to keep help them soft too. If you suffer with dry, chapped lips, try applying some Almond Oil! It’s a great product to use on dry skin such as hands and feet as an alternative to expensive products. Almond Oil is great for softening the skin, you could also add a few drops to your bath for silky smooth skin – be aware though, it can make the bath slippy, so don’t overdo it! Almond Oil really is a great all rounder, and costs a fraction of the price of expensive creams! I still use my Lancome products in the day, and I love them, however, I love Almond Oil at night, nothing beats it in my opinion, and I love using it as an all over body moisturiser. My Top Pick for Almond Oil comes from the Brand Neal’s Yard – a 100ml bottle costs just £12.00
