Community Spirit at the Heart of Trinity Church

Having been under the threat of closure six years ago, Trinity Church, located on the High Street in Skelmersdale, has received a £60,000 grant from Veolia, a resource management company, to renovate the church to provide a more welcoming area, in addition to creating an outdoor space for local groups and individuals alike.
Thanks to the resilience of its members, Trinity has survived, and Helen Porter, Head Steward at the church, says they simply refused to let it close. She was particularly keen to express her thanks to fellow members of the church, Jenny and Derek, for their part in the church winning the grant.
The church is now thriving, with regular Sunday services, including an evening service for the local Bulgarian community, who were welcomed to Trinity having previously struggled to find a suitable venue.
Furthermore, the church is firmly in the centre of the community with events, groups and activities supporting local people through sessions such as Chair-based Keep Fit, Music, Art & Craft, and Knit & Natter.
The church offers more specialised groups, including the Pain Café, Compassion Acts – Welfare Advice, and Living Sober. Location organisations such as Carousel, Oddfellows and the Skelmersdale & District Foodbank can also be found at Trinity. For parents struggling to meet the costs of children’s clothing, there is also a FUSS free school uniforms provision.
In the run-up to Christmas, the church hosts an annual Christmas Fair to raise funds, and this year, it will be held on Saturday 7th December from 10.30am. With stalls featuring jewellery, crafts, gifts, cakes and resin arts, there will also be tables to rent for anyone wishing to get involved. Hot and cold refreshments will also be available from the Trinity café.
Trinity shows the kind of community spirit that puts the heart into Skelmersdale. As a welcoming church open to everyone, they would love to see you at their Christmas Fair this year and of course at any of their activities throughout the year.
