Five Reasons to Shop Local…

At About the Town, we love to celebrate all things local. It could be an organisation, an event or even our local sports teams.

We especially love to champion our local businesses – our shops are the heartbeat of our town.

With this in mind, we came up with five reasons to shop local (although there are tons more!):

1. Feel-good factor – According to www.insightdiy.co.uk 43% of Brits say they get a boost of happiness when they support local shopkeepers.

2. Environmentally friendly – Many of our shops in Skelmersdale are within walking distance, so the environment benefits!

3. Quirky items – You may find some hidden gems that are only available in local shops. Bathroom Heaven for example has loads, as do the monthly Makers Markets and Artisan Markets!

4. Create more jobs – Buying locally puts money into local businesses, enabling them to provide more jobs to the local community, which helps the local economy.

5. Local knowledge and experience – There’s nothing better than being served by a shopkeeper who is passionate about their business, knows their products and has experience of the local area. Your shopping experience is likely to be more personal too.
