Get Ready for Spring with About the Town’s Columnist, Chelle Clarke…
Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about Spring cleaning your home! Spring cleaning is important for everyone, particularly if you’re an allergy sufferer. Giving your home a Spring spruce isn’t just about making your house look better. By de-cluttering, giving your home a good clean and getting organised, you will instantly feel better on the inside! Studies show that a de-cluttered, organised, and clean home can improve productivity and increase your mental wellbeing. In this issue, I want to share a few simple tips that will have you done and dusted in no time (pun intended).
To get started, scope out your home and decide what areas need the most work. Those areas are usually the best places to start. Once you see the difference your making, it will spur you to keep going! Regardless of where you start, have a plan for when you’re tackling each room. This will keep you focused on the task at hand, and presents it more in achievable, bite sized pieces. Make your Spring clean session as fun as possible. Open the windows, put on your favourite music and your comfiest sweats. If you have little people around, then get them involved by setting challenges and small rewards!
Clutter-free living has positive psychological influences as living with clutter actually signals your brain that work isn’t done. Studies have shown that this adds to your stress levels! The scientific implications of inhaling dust, combined with the psychological stress of coming home to a pile of unsorted laundry or cluttered work tops, will eventually take a toll. Therefore, setting aside some time to organise your home will have a positive impact in your life overall. So, get sorting through those cupboards and wardrobes. Organise your living room, office space and children’s play area. Empty that dreaded junk drawer. You may be surprised at how fresh you feel after you eliminate unnecessary stress from your life!
If, even after your Spring Clean, your space still feels dark and heavy, you can make small changes to help make it light and fresh for spring. Add some new colourful pillows, a vase of Daffodils or add some art to the walls. Simple and low cost solutions are available to brighten up your now clean and organised living space. Replacing items like bedding, towels, table linens, and even curtains are some other ways to transform your rooms for Spring.
Can’t stand the thought of any of this? Then why not hire a local cleaner to do the job for you, or you could enlist the help of a family member to help you get through the clutter. Money permitting, you can even hire people to do this for you nowadays! Not to mention, there is also an abundance of tips and tricks online for easy de-cluttering!
Happy Spring Cleaning!
