Introducing Skelmersdale’s fastest growing online community…

Skem First is Skelmersdale’s new online central hub and was set up in January 2020.  It aims to bridge the gap between local businesses, community groups, residents and schools.  Group founder, James Upjohn, realised that there was no central hub that connected all the different areas of Skelmersdale together, and felt people were regularly missing out on what the town has to offer.

James says ‘By design, Skelmersdale is in essence 7 little villages and has historically been rather territorial. If you live in one part of Skelmersdale, you might know what was happening in your community, but you would probably be unaware of what was going on in another area.  By inviting community centres, local business owners, schools, social enterprises and CIC’s to be in one group.  Group members now have one place to find out everything that is happening around the town”.

He adds, “Our Facebook group is a very active community with plenty of posts about what is happening in Skelmersdale and surrounding areas join our group if you are a business looking to connect to the residents, or join as a part of the community if you’re looking to find out more about what’s available in our town”.

Skem First will be organising a Treasure Hunt this Easter after securing donations from local businesses, and kids from all over Skelmersdale are welcome to attend this free event.  This comes off the back of the previous Christmas Treasure Hunt success that saw twenty-five businesses donate, and a hundred attendees participating!

By celebrating everything that’s good about Skelmersdale, encouraging people to shop locally, and bringing people together, Skem First is quickly gaining a reputation of being the group that really does Champion Skelmersdale and wants to see positive change for the benefit of all.
