Little Digmoor School: Empowering Children and Young Entrepreneurs
Little Digmoor County Primary School’s Eco Council, which aims to empower children to voice environmental concerns, are fundraising for a brand new project.
The Eco Council is comprised of pupil representatives from each class, and past projects, which include bird feeders, recycling initiatives, and a vegetable garden, as well as helping to organise a Legacy Day where the whole school planted bulbs to brighten up the environment for the local community, serve to highlight the council’s dedication to environmental stewardship.
The Eco Council’s latest project, which aims to improve the entrance to the school with a vibrant mural, will be complemented by floral tubs, is now underway! In addition to the fundraising, they are also holding a competition for the pupils’ mural design ideas to be brought to fruition and are looking to work with a local artist who will bring these ideas to life.
Head Teacher Karen Houldsworth is fully supporting the project and has set a fundraising target of £1000. Nicole, Rezija, and Heni, children inspired by the cause, alongside their teacher Joanne Dawe, have decided to utilise their bracelet-making talents to help with the fundraising efforts, and have gathered support from local businesses like The Jungle and AppleCast who have agreed to retail their creations.
Nicole said, “We wanted to start a business selling bracelets. We heard about the mural in assembly and thought it might be hard to raise all that money so thought we would help.”
These budding entrepreneurs dedicate lunchtimes and home hours to craft bracelets for sale.
Bracelets are available for purchase at The Jungle, AppleCast Farm, and the school office.
