National Apprenticeship Week 2022

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week 2022, here are a few Apprentice success stories from West Lancashire College!

 
Name: Emily Bowdler

Apprenticeship Studied: Business Administration Level 3

Now: Account Executive at West Lancashire College

Emily gained employment as a Receptionist with West Lancashire College aged 19 after completing her A levels. After not enjoying the A level and full time college experience, Emily decided that University was not for her and chose to study a Business Administration Apprenticeship alongside her role. 

Emily said “Since completing the Apprenticeship, I have not only progressed once, but twice in the company to where I am today as a Business Development Executive. 

After having such a positive experience being an Apprentice, I am really proud that I now get to help others in the same situation that I was in, helping them to find an employer to start their Apprenticeship journey with.  I would definitely recommend completing an Apprenticeship to anyone, as getting yourself into a company through an Apprenticeship can lead to much bigger things.”

Name: Charlie Worth

Apprenticeship Studied: Plumbing Level 2

Now: Business Owner

After completing his studies at Scarisbrick Hall School and Sixth Form College, Charlie decided to embark on a career in the Construction Industry. Charlie applied for a Plumbing Apprenticeship at West Lancashire College in 2018 and gained an Apprenticeship with a local employer.

Whilst undertaking his Apprenticeship Charlie had the idea to start his own business, and with the support of his family started KCW Property Services. The company has since gone from strength to strength, and Charlie has been back to college to talk about his experiences, the business and his ambitious plans for the future.

Charlie said “I would recommend the Apprenticeship programme at West Lancashire College to anyone hoping to get into a trade. The course tutor John was extremely supportive and knowledgeable with great industry links and expertise that he shared with students. In the future I hope to employ Apprentices myself as I think they are a fantastic way to learn a trade and gain skills.”
