Stable Lives Director Carrie Byrom, awarded an MBE in recognition of her tireless work in the community.

Carrie Byrom, a successful three-day eventing rider who competed both nationally and internationally, had ambitions to compete in the Tokyo Olympics when a fall brought an end to her career. Carrie, fuelled by her own experiences, set out to achieve a new goal to establish a safe space that would support those impacted by mental health challenges and those in crisis and named it ‘Stable Lives’.

The Parbold-based charity provides support and a place where people facing mental health challenges can reconnect to society and family life using horses and land-based activities. The charity is now in its 10^th year of enabling people to access vital support in times of crisis.

In acknowledgement, Carrie was awarded an MBE for services to mental health and the community in the North West, and understandably she was thrilled to receive the honour, saying:

“This award is a genuine honour for me. When I received the letter, it made me incredibly emotional and proud, as the work that I have been recognised for has grown from times in my life when I thought there was no future.”

Despite her many amazing achievements and accomplishments, Carrie has remained grounded in her work, acknowledging that running Stable Lives is a collective team effort:

“I’m not a particularly special person. I just use hope and faith to face challenging times. I now have the pleasure of working with an amazing team at Stable Lives, providing a safe place for others to do the same.”
