Talented young writers from local school share their take on friendship…

We were delighted to work with Holland Moor Primary School on this fabulous project to get children writing poetry and focusing on what friendship means to them!  A huge thank you to all the children who took part, their work will all be available on our website to read and enjoy!  In the meantime, check out these amazing pieces written by the children from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6!

Poems on Friendship from Holland Moor Pupils – February 2021

Written by Freya Barnes – Year 5

Friends! Friends!
They are complicated.
But friends look out for you.
Sad, mad or if you’re feeling blue.
They come over and help you.
Friends hug.
Friends laugh.
Friends go through hard times.
Together.

Why do they stick up for you?
Because they are your best friend.
If you hurt your knee, your friend is the first to know.
The first to support you.
Friends don’t get mad at you because they’re your best friend.
And they will never, ever break friends.
Friends have a warm smile.
They don’t need to look perfect they just need to be kind.
Friends moan; friends sometimes argue.
But, the next day, they’re best friends again.

When friends come over to your house, they make the most of the time.
They laugh and giggle.
When their parents come to collect them to take them home, they hide!
This is what friends do.
They can’t be taken apart.
They will cry if their best friend moves away.
Best friends don’t snitch.
Best friends look out for you.
Best friends get in trouble.
With you!

Written by Jacob Wilson – Year 5

Finding common things you both like – to spend time with each other.
Remembering special occasions that you can both celebrate together.
Initiating adventures and creating your own magical world.
Enjoying eating your favourite food and watching movies through the night.
Never lying and being honest and will always keep your trust.
Dedication and making an effort to speak or see each other.
Sharing special memories which make you both smile.
Having lots of laughs and fun – playing all day long.
Inspirational messages to each other to give encouragement to do your best.
Practising and learning together and helping each other grow.

Written by Jessica-Jade Turner – Year 6

My name is Jessica Jade.
I am in year six.
Because of Corona Virus,
Me and my friends can’t mix.

We used to laugh,
Hang around and play.
But now we have to stay at home,
And home-school throughout the day.

We are lucky we have our phones,
So we can all keep in touch.
Without having our phone,
We couldn’t talk very much.

Me and my friends,
Have fun together.
I hope we stay best friends,
For ever and ever!

Written by Liam McCarten – Year 5

I am your friend and will always be there.
Through thick and thin.
No matter what.
All it takes is to trust one another and help one another.
If you need me,
I will be there for you.

Written by Sophia Waugh – Year 5

Friendship is having a best friend who feels just like a relative.
They are funny, amazing, serious, silly, trustful, honest and most importantly understanding.
You can have fun with them or you can fall apart.
You can forgive them or you can leave them.
You can laugh and smile with them or you can cry with them.
A best friend is inseparable from you.
They’re like a relative who will never leave you.

Written by Lydia Smith – Year 6

Friends are kind.
They are there.
So, whenever you need them,
They’ll be there.

Friends support you
Even when you fall.
So whenever you need them,
Just give them a call.

Friendship is a treasure.
So, take care.
If you get stuck on something,
They’ll be there.

If you get into trouble
And you don’t know what to do,
Your friend will be there
To stick up for you.

Written by Dawson Rowntree – Year 5

A friend is someone we turn to when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure for friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives with beauty, joy and grace.
A friend makes the world we live in a better and happier place.
Thank you for being my friend.

Written by Jenson Mellor –Year 4

A helping of happiness,
A teaspoon of kindness,
A dash of crazy and a whole heap of love.
A sprinkling of fun,
A dusting of daring,
A dollop of intelligence with a gallon of giggles.
A squirt of patience,
A drop of understanding,
A heap of trust and a lifetime of joy.

Mix together and share for a future of contentment.

Written by Harry King – Year 3

A dollop of understanding
A pinch of cheekiness
A teaspoon of silliness
And a helping of joy.

A shake of support
A dash of kindness
A sprinkle of cooperation
And a gallon of honesty.

A drizzle of caring
A measure of help
A bottle of cheerful
And a jar of comfort.

Written by Logan Walker – Year 4

To be a perfect friend you will need:
A hint of understanding
A teaspoon of humility
A splash of love
A drop of happiness and a squirt of forgiveness
A shake of easy going
A gallon of honesty
A dusting of humour
A cupful of empathy
Share with as many people as you can so they can be a perfect friend too.

Written by Darcey Chorlton – Year 4

To create the perfect friendship you will need:
A dash of happiness
A dollop of positivity
A squeeze of laughter
A drop of dancing
A helping of trust
A gallon of time
A tablespoon of honesty
A teaspoon of kindness
Put it in the oven and share it with everyone.

Having lived and worked in Skelmersdale my entire life, I noticed that local magazine publications tended to leave Skelmersdale out. The only communication we were receiving was from our local newspaper, and I felt that there was a gap in the market to bring something unique to the town.
