About the Town flash fiction Competition: Winning entries revealed…

In our last issue, we opened up submissions for budding writers and experts to submit pieces of flash fiction to our competition aimed to inspire some creativity!  While entries were a little slow, what we did receive was great to read, and we have picked a couple to share with you!

What is flash fiction? 

Flash fiction is a genre of fiction that is very similar to a short story, however, the word count is much smaller. This allows the writer to focus more on the meaning of the story, and how it will affect the reader. Flash fiction can be a fun way to create a piece of writing that is punchy, thought-provoking, and to the point.

Tough Luck

How are you Fred, after your accident?  Someone will have to read this postcard to you.   Sorry, I scarpered.  Who would have thought two weeks ago I`d be lording it on a Spanish beach?

Lazy days, turquoise sea, beach, GIRLS.  No telling when I`ll be back – if ever.   Missed your chance mate – six lucky numbers – regular as clockwork – every week.  Always checked them yourself.   Tough luck – six million pounds.  Fancy getting knocked down the day we won!

But you managed to remind me to check them, just before losing consciousness.   Felt rotten searching your pockets when the nurse handed me your jacket. Cheers Archie xx

Why?

It’s all he can think as his eyes snap open to see it … the bloodstains, the gristle, and fragments of bone- a collage of body parts across the room.

He told her never to come to his house while the moon was full- that the chains he bought that day were for a reason.

Now all he’s left with is an empty heart… and a full stomach.
