A welcome saviour as new local business saves parents hundreds of pounds this summer…

Prom can cost parents hundreds of pounds and an incredible amount of stress, but with this new initiative run by Dannielle, Dominique and Laura, paying for Prom can be more achievable for those who otherwise would have to miss this very special event in a teenager’s life.

Skelmersdale Prom Wear Library was formed after Danielle was saddened to hear about a young girl who couldn’t go to prom because her parents couldn’t afford a dress. She soon realised that this was a huge barrier for many parents and their children, so an idea was born to help eliminate these disadvantages.

The dresses are donated by the public and local dress/bridal shops and range in sizes 2-24. All they ask is a refundable deposit of £100 upon renting a dress. Upon return, they charge a nominal fee to have it dry-cleaned.

Daninelle says: “This is something that we really want the local community to benefit from; we want to create something that eases people’s worries and enables the young people of our town to enjoy what has now become a rite of passage, which is to attend their High School Prom.”

Not only is this great for saving money, but sustainable fashion is fast becoming one of the hottest trends.
