Bringing Creativity, Connection and Community to Skem: Spotlight on the ERooms

Tucked away in Old Skem, the ERooms is more than just a venue, it’s a not-for-profit CIC rooted in community, creativity, and connection. Led by the passionate and ever-committed Steve Sax, this vibrant space supports local people through a wide range of events and initiatives that put the power of music, art, and togetherness front and centre.

From music tuition to drama, the ERooms is a home for local groups like Learning Stars, Active4All, and Dream Makers, offering them a welcoming space to run sessions that nurture talent and build confidence. Its rooms are also available for private hire, making it a versatile hub for all kinds of community-driven activities.

Recently, the ERooms proudly teamed up with fellow CIC About the Town, hosting their energetic 70s/80s Back to the Boogie Disco Night Fundraiser, which raised over £700 in support of mental health and creative outreach in the area, a shining example of collaboration between organisations who truly care.

Live music is a big part of what the ERooms does best. Regular low-cost gigs shine a spotlight on local talent, proving that world-class entertainment doesn’t have to come with a high price tag. Their Over 50s Disco every Friday (1–4pm) brings joy and movement to the community, with a £3 entry fee and a licensed bar adding to the fun.

Their licensed bar, open Monday–Friday (9:30am–11pm) and Saturday (10:30am–1am), offers a welcoming atmosphere to grab a hot drink, enjoy a cold one, or just sit back and relax. On sunny days, the outdoor seating area is the perfect place to unwind and soak up the vibe.

There’s plenty to look forward to this summer, including:

  • Open Mic Night – Sat 14th June, 7:30pm
  • Sabotage: A Tribute to Black Sabbath (plus Lee Cunliffe) – Sat 19th July, 7pm
  • Paramore Ish & The Ravenous – Sat 9th August, 7pm
