Skem’s Kids Get Fit & Have Fun after months of lockdown measures…

Local business owner, Ben Joyce, held free training sessions for children ages 5 – 13 over the Easter holidays to help our local kids get back to socialising, improving their fitness, whilst also helping to reduce stress and anxiety, in a safe and fun environment.  Two sessions have been taking place every weekday over the Easter holidays, one in Banksbarn, Digmoor, and one in Birch Green. The sessions welcomed 30+ children all eager to enjoy the free hour long sessions. Ben, of Skelmersdale, owner of local business Salad Base, as well as being a qualified FA coach, called in some help from fellow coach Daniel Young to help deliver the sessions, as well as partner Katie Deegan, who also dressed up as the Easter Bunny to deliver the eggs!

All the kids who took part received an Easter Egg each on the Friday session before Easter, which had been kindly donated by local businesses and individuals.

Ben said “Who would have thought you could get a group of 30 kids, all mixed ages, to listen and follow instructions with no swearing and no complaints, all enjoying a full hours session – These kids were so well behaved, respectful and grateful”

After such a tough year this was a welcome gesture from a group of generous people who’s aim was to help support the mental and physical health of our local children.

Having lived and worked in Skelmersdale my entire life, I noticed that local magazine publications tended to leave Skelmersdale out. The only communication we were receiving was from our local newspaper, and I felt that there was a gap in the market to bring something unique to the town.
