Stay Healthy and Connected This Winter

As the winter months approach, it’s essential to keep both our bodies and minds active and healthy. While the darker, colder days can often make us feel like hibernating, it’s important to remember that Skelmersdale offers a wealth of resources and activities to help us stay mentally, physically, and socially engaged.

One of the best ways to support your well-being is by staying connected with nature. Donning a pair of wellies and taking a brisk walk around the Beacon Country Park or exploring the beautiful trails at Tawd Valley can do wonders for your mental and physical health. Not only does it provide a refreshing dose of fresh air and exercise, but it also helps lift your spirits. Both parks offer stunning winter scenery, and a peaceful walk here can be just what you need to recharge.

However, keeping connected isn’t just about physical activity. Social connections play a crucial role in maintaining mental health and overall happiness. As humans, we thrive on interaction, and staying engaged with others can help reduce feelings of loneliness and anxiety. Fortunately, Skelmersdale is rich with opportunities to meet new people or catch up with old friends. Throughout the season, there are numerous free events and gatherings designed to bring people together. From coffee mornings and bingo to art classes and live music, there’s always something happening.

Finding out what’s on can sometimes be the biggest challenge. To stay informed, be sure to visit www.aboutthetown.co.uk, where the event calendar is updated weekly. Additionally, the Skem First community group on Facebook is an excellent resource for discovering local activities shared by community members.

As winter sets in, remember that maintaining your health and happiness involves more than just staying physically active. Embrace the power of connection—whether it’s a friendly chat with a neighbour, joining a local event, or enjoying a walk with friends. Take advantage of the many resources our community has to offer such as at the community hubs at About the Town Central, The Sign Post Cafe at the Ecumenical Centre, Greenhill, St Thomas The Martyr Church, Trinity Church, The Pulse and many more. These places offer local people a place of warmth, connection and opportunities, making this winter a season of wellness and connection.

Stay warm, stay healthy, and stay connected!

Having lived and worked in Skelmersdale my entire life, I noticed that local magazine publications tended to leave Skelmersdale out. The only communication we were receiving was from our local newspaper, and I felt that there was a gap in the market to bring something unique to the town.
