Words with Shares

Following on from our recent writing competition that we featured in our winter edition (issue 5) of About the Town Magazine, which was in partnership with Shares Lancashire, we promised to share some of the other amazing work we had sent in by schools around Skelmersdale and Surrounding areas.  These children worked so hard on these pieces and so deserve every bit of recognition for their efforts.

I believe it is hugely important that we encourage children to write as much as possible, and celebrate their work as often as we can.  Writing is not only great for flexing a child’s imagination, but it helps them to build on their fine motor skills, confidence and communication skills, as well as having many more benefits to their learning and development.

Writing is a way for children to express themselves and share their ideas, especially for this particular purpose as we asked the children to focus on positivity as a theme.  It has been a very difficult year and I was truly blown away by the creativity and openness of these children, and I hope you enjoy reading their work as much as I did!

We are always looking to work with local schools to promote good news, positivity and creativity, so please do get in touch if you have any ideas you’d like to discuss.

About Author /

Having lived and worked in Skelmersdale my entire life, I noticed that local magazine publications tended to leave Skelmersdale out. The only communication we were receiving was from our local newspaper, and I felt that there was a gap in the market to bring something unique to the town.
