The A World UK has opened a branch here in Skelmersdale… but what is?

The A World is a not-for-profit CIC organisation which supports the autistic community across Northern England.

They aim to give help and support to those with Autism and their families through the various services that they offer. These include funded holidays, free horse-riding lessons and many other inclusive events which are held throughout the year. They also raise awareness of Autism within the community by promoting acceptance and inclusion.

According to the British Medical Association, it is estimated that around 700,000 people have a diagnosis of Autism, while one in 100 children have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Julie, who volunteers in the store, said: ‘The Skelmersdale community have been very generous with their donations, and we’ve even started to get our Christmas stock in now so we’re well prepared!’

She also thanks the success of the store to the great location; based on the first floor of the Concourse Shopping Centre, directly opposite Home Bargains. This location offers them a prime location as they receive consistent footfall.

‘The great thing is, because we sell our goods at cheap prices, people are always coming back to us, so we do well.’ – Julie.

When asked about donations, Julie said they take anything except car seats and helmets due to health and safety, and seeing what they had in-store, it is clear to see there is a lot of choice for shoppers. Clothes, toys and games, electricals, bedlinen – whatever you’re looking for, they’re almost guaranteed to have!

The A World receives no funding from outside sources and so they rely on generous donations of items and money from members of the public. Any funds raised are used by the A World UK to provide services to the Autistic community and their families.
