Birchwood Marks World Mental Health Day with a Week of Wellbeing
In October, the Birchwood Centre marked World Mental Health Day with a week of activities focused on wellbeing, connection, and self-care. Events included yoga, mindfulness, creative workshops, healthy cooking, gratitude exercises, and one-to-one chats — all designed to help people pause, breathe, and find calm in busy lives.
Staff and community members proudly wore green to show support for mental health awareness, and every team member received a wellbeing box filled with thoughtful treats to encourage rest and reflection.
As we move into the darker months, Birchwood reminds everyone that small, simple habits can make a big difference. Getting outside for daylight, moving your body, spending time with others, or taking five quiet minutes to yourself can all lift your mood.
It’s also been an inspiring year for Birchwood. Over 1,000 people have reached out for mental health and wellbeing support, finding a safe space to talk and be heard. The counselling team has delivered hundreds of sessions across key projects — from students at West Lancashire College to local young people and adults — helping each person find hope and strength when they needed it most.
As we head into winter, Birchwood offers five top tips for wellbeing:
Get Outside Daily – Even a short walk in daylight helps.
Stay Connected – Catch up with friends, family, or a local group.
Keep Moving – Try yoga, gentle exercise, or dance in the kitchen!
Practice Self-Care – Read, rest, cook, or find a moment of peace.
Talk About How You Feel – You’re never alone. Reach out for support.
