Celebrating Summer Success at About the Town

This summer has been a season of remarkable achievements for About the Town. We kicked off with our vibrant PRIDE celebrations at our Creative Studio, generously funded by Scott Rees Solicitors and the Skelmersdale and Upholland Rotary Club. These events brought people together in a spirit of love and community to enjoy crafting activities such as badge making, gingerbread people decoration, and rock painting. The success of these events has inspired us to host regular get-togethers starting in August to support our LGBTQ+ community in Skelmersdale and West Lancashire. In addition, we successfully launched our first summer holiday project for kids that we named ‘Creative Futures.’ These sessions catered to two age groups and offered three hours of engaging activities, including arts and crafts, mindfulness exercises, fun games like pool and table tennis, and of course, delicious food. We also had local PCSOs join us to interact with the children, aiming to build trust and open lines of communication. This project was made possible by the Clive Grunshaw Community Summer Fund.

Moreover, we launched our Dementia Craft Cafes in May, offering free support and activities for families and individuals living with dementia. This initiative, funded by Councillor Terry Aldridge, has provided a valuable space for creativity and connection.

We are incredibly proud of these accomplishments and look forward to continuing to serve our community with more enriching activities and events.
