The Alcatraz Job: Two Men, Two Wheelchairs, and Zero Plan B

Cast your minds back to the 9th of July 2022, when two of Skelmersdale’s notorious criminals made their ‘Escape from Skelmersdale’…. Well, they are back! And this time they are looking to escape Skem again!

This time, on Friday 7th of November, donning their prison uniforms, Carl Eaton and Peter Walsh will be taking on the ultimate challenge, by ‘breaking into’ the infamous Alcatraz Island in San Francisco, in the name of three excellent causes close to Carl’s heart.

Interviewed on Radio Merseyside, he explained that the challenge will raise funds for SHINE, an organisation that supports people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, both of which affect Carl directly, Corticobasal Syndrome, a rare disease that causes areas of the brain to shrink, and Skem Men-ACES, the disabled football club that he and his wife, Mim, founded in 2009.

Carl and Peter hope to raise £100,000, by travelling unfunded from Skelmersdale to Alcatraz via Dublin, with no food or drink, from the UK using only wheelchairs and depending solely on the kindness and generosity of strangers along the way.

While the two men are used to taking on such epic challenges, this time they will need support in the form of passports, flights, transport to and from the airports and accommodation.

Carl says: “Our goal is twofold; firstly, we want to raise crucial funds for these three incredible causes that make a real difference in the lives of people with disabilities.”

“Secondly, we want to demonstrate that anything is possible with determination and the right support. We hope our journey inspires others to challenge limitations and embrace a more inclusive world.”

Their commitment to this epic challenge embodies the power and strength of the human spirit while raising awareness of their cause.

You will be able to follow their exploits through a dedicated website and Carl’s social media channels on Facebook and Instagram.
